Who writes this
My name is Oleksandr Nikolaichuk, and I hold the Project Management Professional (PMP) certification from PMI. PM Playbook began as my own study notes and grew into the reference I wanted to exist and could not find: every principle, performance domain and process written out in plain English, in one place, with the edition each one belongs to stated on the page.
I write and maintain all of it. There is no editorial team behind this site, and I would rather say so than imply one.
What this site is
PM Playbook is a free, independent reference to the vocabulary of project management as PMI publishes it. It covers:
- the 12 principles and 8 performance domains introduced in the Seventh Edition;
- the 49 processes of the Sixth Edition, which most existing exam material is still written around;
- the Eighth Edition material — the 40 processes, and an item-level PMBOK 7 → 8 crosswalk.
Everything is free to read. There is no login, no signup, no paywall, and no advertising.
How it is made
Every page is written from the published guides and from the terminology PMI uses in them. The explanations are my own paraphrase rather than reproduced text, and each page states which edition it describes — the three editions disagree with each other often enough that an unlabelled page is worse than no page.
The crosswalk is the clearest example of the method. I worked through all 49 Sixth Edition processes against the Eighth Edition text one at a time and classified each one as kept, renamed, merged, or left without a successor. PMI publishes no item-level mapping of its own, so that classification is mine. I have tried to present it so you can check it against the source rather than take it on trust.
This is desk research against published material. It is not a report of what any particular exam contains.
